Kansas City Wedding Photographer

First of all, GORGEOUS couple.  They are just stunning together and as NICE as can be.  Jillian is a professional dancer.  She moves and photography with grace and elegance that is just effortless. The family welcomed us with open arms and her mother asked me at least five times if I had anything to eat throughout the day.  They are just the sweetest.

Their first meetings were hit and miss.  In a nutshell,  she talked a lot and he didn’t think he could keep up with her.  She has some high-octane energy {but it’s the good sort of energy, where you talk to her and you feel just a little more peppy}.  In the end, their happily ever after was August 4, 2012, in a beautiful ceremony officiated by Jason’s father.  It was truly a lovely day.

The New Life Event Space in KC is a gorgeous, venue and the managers were gracious and accommodating on every level.  It has an urban look and lots of windows. {I love windows}.

Jillian’s taste is impeccable. When she described her dress, I knew it was going to be stunning.  The costume designer at her dance company she is with created the dress…it was perfection in every way right down to the shoes!  It was just so elegant.  I was worried about the first dance, Jillian clearly taught Jason well.  🙂

As a prelude to the wedding, Jillian and Jason appeared at the front of the room via projection and share their sweet and funny story with a candid video that had the entire room laughing.

Take a minute to view the video from Brian and Inversion Productions: How We Met.  It is truly a touching and honest story of how they got to this special day.  We sincerely thank you for including us in your perfect wedding day crew of professionals!

    Kansas City Antique Newborn Props

Sleep..cry..eat…pee..sleep..cry..eat..poo.  It’s funny how this simple beings can be so completely fascinating, especially when they are your own.  He was so incredibly easy to work with and that sweet face just melted me!  His hair has a tinge of red to it, he is just a peaceful little guy!

I routinely scour the antique stores for the most “one of a kind” props I can find.  I scrub, wash and disinfect the heck out of everything between sessions, even if it doesn’t touch baby.  {Tiny bit of OCD that way}.  Antique shopping is one of my favorite things to do, so if you see anything you think I might fit a baby in, definitely send me an email.  I am all about rustic and vintage!

This teeny cradle was handmade by the most wonderful carpenter -my grandpa.  He originally made it from my mother’s dolls.  Everything I have that he made  {candlesticks, a dressing table, a foot stool} still looks absolutely new.  He polished and sealed the wood so well that it just stands up to the test of time.  I used to put my own dolls in this cradle and now I use it in my Kansas City Newborn Photography shoots all of the time. It is a special thing and reminds me of him every time I pull it out for a shoot.

Take a peek at mom’s maternity session here.  It was full of color, love and that sweet feeling of expectations and excitement.  Every expecting mom should document that time!  Thank you so much for choosing me to document your pregnancy and create your newborn portraits, it was a pleasure working with your sweet family and I hope to see you soon!

      Kansas City Maternity Photographer

Maternity portraits.  You may think you don’t need them…it’s the baby who will be the focus for photography.  What???  No, no, no!  Pregnancy is a beautiful thing.  Pregnancy HAIR is a beautiful thing.  (Can I have it back, please?)  Pregnancy skin is amazing.  GLOW! And what is more, someday your little one is going to ask about being in your belly and “How big WAS the belly?”  It is nicer to be able to pull out an album of images with gorgeous color where you look fabulous than to pull out a 4×6 glossy print of you in yoga pants in the living room.  (I have plenty of those, but you need more than the quick snapshot). I’ll even help you pick the wardrobe.  Just do it, you’ll be glad that you did!

For your maternity session you can choose a studio session, an outdoor session or a combination of both.  This session is in historic downtown Blue Springs, right outside of my studio.  I love to include dad in the maternity session, it is an experience you both will remember, the excitement for that new baby to come, definitely translates to the images.

THIS particular session was a full on riot.  Dad was a hoot.  I had to take breaks from shooting just to crack up. I love it when clients wear bright colors and I have a gorgeous street in front of the studio.  I loved mom’s clothing choices, you can never go wrong with a maxi dress and color.  The jean jacket adds pop and ties dad’s blue together in the portraits.  She looks so great in red!  Have I mentioned that bright colors outdoors are my FAVORITE?

        Kansas City NICU Newborn Photography

I have quite a few clients who will have a baby come home from the NICU and 1-3 months and that is when we have their newborn session. That is still a perfect time!  I think many parents with a NICU newborn think that they have missed the mark time-wise with a newborn session and that is not true at all.

While there are photographers that can give you a wonderful session while in the NICU, there really is nothing like a studio newborn session to help celebrate baby coming home from the hospital.  That is truly a reason to celebrate and a time to document forever. I find these sessions so very special.

Just give the studio a call when your baby is coming home and I can most often work you in during the week.  A newborn session usually takes 2 to 2 1/2 hours, sometimes more, sometimes less. They are never rushed and we just take our time because we are on “newborn time”. Newborn safety is always my first priority.  The studio is large and has all of the comforts of home, with endless options that you don’t get with an at home session.  I do my best to make it a wonderful and stress-free experience for mom and dad.

This ADORABLE little girl spent lots of time in the NICU and her newborn session was just a week getting off of all of her monitors.  What a wonderful way to celebrate that!  Bless her heart, she slept like an angel and was just precious in every single way. I am so humbled you brought her to me for her first portrait session, thank you!  I look forward to seeing you all again!
