Welcome to the blog

Monthly Archives: May 2014

May was such a busy newborn month at the studio!  They always seem to come in little spurts.  There is just something about a newborn baby with a ton of dark hair and I was excited to be able to use the pink and girly accents!  She was such a good baby.  I have a serious love for all things vintage and antiques, I am constantly browsing through antique stores to find new props and things for our home. If the whole house had a “french country” feel to it, I would be in heaven.   I just kind of fell into offering Kansa City vintage newborn photography from that.  There are all kinds of vintage elements to choose from in the studio, from scales, carved bowls and boxes, to hat and fabrics with a “vintage” flair to them.  I am always drawn to backdrops that look like vintage wallpaper.  The floor of the studio is original and I just adore it in images.

This little sweetie just slept like a dream during her session, she was as easy as pie.  Mom has a very easygoing baby on her hands, I think. I broke out my new baby tiara and mom brought a tiara that I really need to order that baby can wear in several different ways.  (Already accessorizing).  Hard to choose favorites!

    Kansas City Baby Photographer

Being a Kansas City Baby Photographer, I have to say that six months is one of my very favorite ages. Babies have filled out and have those sweet baby cheeks, too. I think it is important to capture this milestone where they can sit up on their own. It is all so new to them and they always have such a proud look on their faces. There are so many poses and angles we can get when a baby can sit up, you really shouldn’t wait for them to be standing. Six months is a key age to have portraits in the studio. With studio portraiture, the light is “just right”. You really cannot duplicate it outdoors. That is not to say that you shouldn’t do outdoor portraits at this age. Do both!

When you don’t have to put this child in a prop for support.you can get a very “clean” looking and compelling image. In my Kansas City baby photography studio, I find that clean images are often my favorite.  Personally, I don’t like a cluttered look when I hang large images on my walls because I don’t decorate “around” portraits.  I like them to go with my decor, that is one of the reasons why I got into portrait photography. It was just so hard for me to find really clean and simple portrait work. In using props, one at a time is my preference. I encourage the client to look at backdrops and help style their shoot, keeping in mind where the images will be hanging on their walls

This little doll was full of smiles and personality!   Her little eyes are the prettiest color that you just don’t see that often.  It reminds me of a gemstone with little flecks. I just love this little lace romper I have in the studio for 6-month babies from SAVANI boutique. See more babies in my portfolio.

Kansas City Child Photographer – Twins

I love watching the children grow that I photograph over the years. These twins are so great big now!  It seems like just yesterday they had both come home from the NICU and we did their newborn photo session as soon as they came home.  I shot the newborn session in the client’s home and all of the baby piddles and messes were such a surprise for dad!  I laugh just remembering that time!

I really am enjoying my damask backdrops lately.  I think I have them in pink, grey, black, green and ivory.
