I was just watching one of my favorite photographers speak. Jessica Claire was talking about shooting weddings with intention. I was sitting here editing and thinking about my intentions when I am shooting a newborn. I have always included with my newborn sessions, ”black on black”. Basically, the biggest reasons for this is that it is classic. It’s never going to be trendy on the walls of your home. I have seen clients hang their newborn portraits in their dining room. That is how well they are going to integrate with decor. Black is also slimming and easy to coordinate the week after you have a baby. I also include some “lighter” shots that are bright and airy. Of course, I try my best to capture anything that the parents have in mind. So, I am thinking about portraits for your walls, for an album, for grandparent gifts, as well as an artsy and different take on things.
Mom has had this session planned for quite a while, which is the best way to plan. On a pinch though, I can almost always get newborns in during the week at the studio. Getting them in under two weeks old is ideal!
This little girl slept and gave us such sweet little poses! She was just a pleasure. Thanks so much Brea and Larry, for allowing me to take his first ever portraits!
