How long have you been in business?

Captures in Time Photography has been a cornerstone in Kansas City baby photography and family photography since 2007.

Do you have a studio?

I do! I have a gorgeous, commercial studio space in downtown Historic Blue Springs. It is not a home studio.

Do you accept walk-ins?

Our Kansas City baby photography studio is an environment that allows me to give each client my full attention. If you wish to speak with me about products and services, please make an appointment. Sessions are by appointment only and take place in the studio located in the historic area of Blue Springs, about 20 minutes east of Kansas City.

Do you offer in-home newborn sessions?

I do not offer in-home newborn sessions. In my opinion, studio-style, posed newborn portraiture needs to take place in the studio for the most consistent results. I used to offer in-home sessions, but they tend to take twice as long. Furniture must be moved and if there is a funky paint color, it will give a skin cast. I have tons of props and options in my studio and I love to have them all right there during the shoot.

Do you provide the props?

Yes! The studio is stocked to the brim with high quality, handmade wraps, bonnets, and headbands. I am always adding to the collection. Anything props you see on my website came from my studio. You are welcome to special request any of them, providing baby will fit!

How far in advance should I book a newborn session?

It is never too early, sometimes I book a few months out.

Will my images be edited?

I retouch and artistically hand edit each image individually, including mild cases of baby acne and skin peeling. If there is a severe skin issue, please send a picture over before your session to see if this is something that will look unnatural when retouched. I would rather push back a session a few days in cases of widespread skin issues.

How long does it take to get my images back?

After your session date, the process for your custom portrait session with Captures in Time Photography takes about a week to two weeks.

Can I share my images on Facebook?

Yes! All of our packages are all-inclusive, so you are given a print and web release for personal use.  This means you can share them and print them. Please give credit to Captures in Time Photography under any images posted to social networking sites. I also post a favorite or two from your session on my Facebook business page, which you can share before you receive your download links.

How do I schedule my newborn photo session when I don’t know when he or she will be born?

In my experience, it is best that the newborn sessions are held within 7-10 days after their birth so that we can get the most cooperation for all of the cute newborn poses. If the baby arrives a bit early or late, we can move that date forward or back.  My booking calendar is on the right-hand side of the site. Just select a date 7-10 days after your due date and you are "soft booked". This means your baby will have priority in my schedule and you are guaranteed a slot. Dates are easily moved as I build dates into the schedule for early and late babies just in case.

My baby is here! Can we get in?

It depends on the schedule, feel free to contact me to see if we have availability.

Can a very young sibling be in some shots with the new baby?

If you are purchasing a package with a parent and sibling series, they are welcome to be in a couple of images other than family shots. However, for siblings under 3 years old, a parent must be within arms reach of the older sibling within all times. Toddlers have a lot to adjust to during this time and asking them to lie or sit next to baby can be too much. Take their temperament into consideration. I do not spend more than 10 minutes with sibling images as newborns on their own are time-consuming and we want a full gallery of the baby. I do encourage that you bring two cars so the toddler is not bored in the studio for 2-3 hours. Or, dad can leave for lunch with the toddler and come back when baby only shots are completed.

What kind of equipment do you use?

I own a Canon 5D Mark III as my main camera and as a backup. My favorite lenses are the Canon 70-200m f/2.8L IS II, the Sigma Art 35mm 1.4, the Canon 50mm 1.2/L and the Canon 100mm f2.8/L.

What if our outdoor session is rained out?

We will reschedule your session as soon as the schedule and the weather will allow us. For groups of 6 or less, we can often move to the studio if you prefer.

What if one of us is sick?

We appreciate it if you reschedule. Sick kiddos do not photograph well. It is NO problem to reschedule and you do not have to pay another deposit.
