Happy fall! This post is a bit all over the place. You are forewarned. When I was doing some search engine optimization with my site, I noticed I seem to be way down in rank for this keyword: “best kansas city newborn photos.” You have to mention keywords on your site and text to rank well. This is one of those phrases that are hard to use in context without it looking completely arrogant. I suppose I will integrate that into this post in a tongue and cheek way. If you are looking for a newborn photographer, see my blog post on how to find the best Kansas City newborn photographer for you!

Consequently, I am very behind in blogging but don’t think that I haven’t been shooting. For me, I like to catch up with blogging for the year in the winter when it is cold and a bit slower! The air is crisp and I am in the midst of the busy Kansas City family fall photography month. It would be so nice if our October lasted so much longer!

A bit of studio news, Captures in Time has a new website that I am loving. ProPhoto 6 has a new backend and some awesome sites you can start with. Super-easy to customize.

Funny story…I was editing this session and my husband came up to my computer and said, “Is that Hosmer?” I think I would have mentioned if he booked a newborn session. You can see the resemblance in the eyes! Salvador Perez has a new baby, according to Instagram, btw.

During his newborn session, Conner was such a cooperative little guy! Almost all the while, he was not fussy in the slightest and just a dream to work with. His mama was just gorgeous, too.

Now, I always talk about how black on black is my favorite color palette for the parent and newborn series in the session. Because it provides contrast with the skin tones when shot correctly the skin will just glow. New moms always have a glow anyway. Well, I just loved working these new parents, such a fun shoot! I hope you guys are enjoying your new home with your sweet little man!

Baby Photography Kansas City | Meet Colton

Oh my GOODness! My job creating baby photography in Kansas City doesn’t get much more fun than this. He could not have been any cuter for his “sitter” six-month session!  SO mellow and smiley. I met mom, dad and Colton at the studio. This baby was super relaxed and his red hair and gorgeous, blue eyes are so unique. After a few sets and outfits in the studio, we went outside to play for a little bit with mom and dad.

The six-month milestone is so much fun to document. As soon as they can sit up unassisted, make that call! For several reasons, I prefer the bulk of the six-month session to be in the studio. Parents are welcome to go outdoors with me after a couple of sets and we can get baby/family shots, giving you the best of both worlds for your session.

1.There are fewer distractions in the studio-

When you are outside and a car is driving by, they are very intent on following that car with their eyes. Especially boys, it begins early, this infatuation with vehicles. Outdoors there are many textures that your baby is not as familiar with. As a result, the baby will be exploring those and not glancing at the camera as frequently. Rather than competing with grass and concrete, I will have more of their attention in the studio.

    2. Better expressions-

Because the baby is much more comfortable being in a smaller space with mom and dad close by while sitting on their own than out in the “big world”. Also, the studio is the perfect temperature.

    3. The lighting is perfection-

Consequently, there is nothing like a studio session for maximizing clarity in a portrait. Studio lighting highlights huge eyes and facial features in a way the sun just doesn’t always do outside.

    4. Mom can help style the session, this is so much fun-

Most of all, moms have a blast coordinating sessions at this age by selecting backdrops from our “Style Your Session” website we give you access to after you schedule your appointment. A lot of times, mom will already have outfits selected. Almost always, this site will give you inspiration when you go shopping for your sitter-session! Take a peek at Nordstrom’s baby clothes. They are some of my favorites to photograph!

Thank you so much for bringing him, I hope to see you all again soon!

Baby Photography Lees Summit | Meet LoLo

    The Client:

LoLo is the newest addition to a lovely family from Lees Summit that I have known since my late teens. Mom and I were chemistry partners in college. I was actually also their wedding photographer! Always so great to see them. Sweet little LoLo, she is just full of expression, looks so much like her sister was at this age. I am loving this little floral romper I purchased from Posh Peanut in the last image. We got her in a variety of outfits and the dress Grandma bought for her!

    The Backdrops & Outfits:

We chose a wooden flower backdrop and a gray damask. LoLo tolerated mom changing her outfit four times, I have to say this is unusual! Mom and I thought the wooden flowers would go well with her denim. I gave her a vintage school chair, which she thought was the best thing, ever. Susan brought along a sweet, polka dot dress that her mom had found for LoLo. She also had a pink dress that reminded me of Jaqueline Kennedy. (Love that). I had just received a floral romper in the mail, so LoLo was a trooper to wear it as well.

One thing about toddler studio photography. You don’t need to worry about shoes, it is much more natural without them. When toddler sits down, more than likely we will get scuffed soles in the picture and their cute, chunky feel are so much cuter than the bottom of a shoe!

Documenting the First Year With Us:

Captures in Time Photography gives you many options to preserve your baby’s first years in heirloom studio photography. Our Tiny Toes baby document’s your baby’s big milestones that the first year with a newborn, six month and one year session. A three-month session may be added for a discounted fee. All of the digital files from your galleries are included with the Tiny Toes plan. I design many coffee table books and albums for clients with each session in chronological order. My professional products and books are a wonderful quality.

      A Couple of Tiny Clients

Two are even better than one! Fun times two. Oh my goodness, these two little men. Sweet and obviously gorgeous babies. Never has a set of twins been in the studio who were full term! They hung in there almost to the very end for mama.

      The Session

Dad and mom have one baby that looks more like each of them. With very different skin tones, the little guy on the right has a pinkish hue to his skin like his gorgeous mom and it will be interesting to see if he will be a redhead.

During the session, plenty of extra time is always allowed for twins, even though it might not be needed. Do not want anyone to feel rushed (including myself). Babies slept soundly through most of their session. Father was a trooper helping clean up the little messes that came along. A couple so calm and serene with their babies, you would never guess they were first-time parents. I think babies really pick up on the energy that we are carrying, so that was great! Anyone that has had a newborn session with one baby knows that it can be a challenge and they rose to the occasion.

During the session, we had in-depth conversations about coding and web design. These little guys will most certainly be technical.

Dad was geeked out when I brought out my Yoda and R2D2 Star Wars hats, jumping around with excitement. I am not joking. I was thrilled to be able to use the hats together. Lastly, thank you so much for bringing in your adorable little guys. I hope to see them again, it was lovely to meet you all.
