Decorating with Portraits | Captures in Time Photography

Many of my clients ask me for help with wall groupings.  I can take a snap of a room and show you how arrangements and enlargements will play out, feel free to ask me at your session.  I don’t charge extra for this!
Some things to remember when selecting images for your walls:

There is nothing limiting you as far as how large your portraits can be.  I could seriously make your portraits 20 feet or more and they will look fabulous.   There is an “old school” mentality that images of “people” should not be large because it looks pretentious.  Not true any longer!

Look at the furniture below or around the space you are wanting to decorate.  If you have a 5 1/2 foot couch (see bottom photo) and place a couple of 8×10 prints above it, those prints will be swallowed up by the couch, which is going to be the focal point.  Instead, a 24×30 print with a wide frame and two accent pieces on either side draws your eye to the portrait of the baby.

Invest in large frames that work with several of the palettes in your home.  Each time you have an enlargement printed, you can move one to another room, swap them out, change the matting to a different color, etc.  It’s a quick way to freshen up an area with new art.

For a ten foot wall, think in terms of “groups” four or more 11×14 sizes or two or more 16×20’s, one 24×30, etc.
