Burr Oaks is a Great Location for Family Photography in the Fall

The fall rush. What a great time for family photography in Kansas City. It is so great to see families that I haven’t seen in a while. I get such a kick out of watching your kids grow up. This is my 9th year in business and 6th year in a retail/commercial studio. It is so hard to believe that all those years have flown by!

We’ve Had Some Interesting Critters Along for the Ride

We have had the most amazing fall in Kansas City. There were a few photo shoots where I had to go down to our storage room and dig some shorts out of air compression bags. After a cold few days, I jumped the gun and switched out my summer/winter clothing. In KC, we traded this gorgeous weather for oak mites, something we never knew existed before this year. I am really over the oak mites. As a result of being bitten for 5 consecutive weekends, I did discover that the really dislike peppermint oil mixed with tea tree oil. The concoction doesn’t smell great, but it seems to do the job. I could seriously go on and on about them and the torture that they caused my pom/pug this fall.

I Love it When Families Return

I first photographed this family, I believe it was about 8 years ago at the English Landing. It was so sad when it flooded. This spring, I am planning on doing some spring family sessions up that way. It would be really fun to shoot families in their hometowns and do some new location scouting in 2017. We shot this session in Burr Oaks, in Blue Springs. It’s really colorful in the fall and we lucked out that the trees still held their leaves. Mom really coordinated everyone so expertly! I love how she has a blue chambray under her sweater and her scarf pulls in the magenta tones. The red hair on this little girl is amazing. I immediately made a mental note to save her hair color to show my stylist!
