The fall rush. What a great time for family photography in Kansas City. It is so great to see families that I haven’t seen in a while. I get such a kick out of watching your kids grow up. This is my 9th year in business and 6th year in a retail/commercial studio. It is so hard to believe that all those years have flown by!

We have had the most amazing fall in Kansas City. There were a few photo shoots where I had to go down to our storage room and dig some shorts out of air compression bags. After a cold few days, I jumped the gun and switched out my summer/winter clothing. In KC, we traded this gorgeous weather for oak mites, something we never knew existed before this year. I am really over the oak mites. As a result of being bitten for 5 consecutive weekends, I did discover that the really dislike peppermint oil mixed with tea tree oil. The concoction doesn’t smell great, but it seems to do the job. I could seriously go on and on about them and the torture that they caused my pom/pug this fall.

I first photographed this family, I believe it was about 8 years ago at the English Landing. It was so sad when it flooded. This spring, I am planning on doing some spring family sessions up that way. It would be really fun to shoot families in their hometowns and do some new location scouting in 2017. We shot this session in Burr Oaks, in Blue Springs. It’s really colorful in the fall and we lucked out that the trees still held their leaves. Mom really coordinated everyone so expertly! I love how she has a blue chambray under her sweater and her scarf pulls in the magenta tones. The red hair on this little girl is amazing. I immediately made a mental note to save her hair color to show my stylist!

Thanks for booking me this fall, guys! Really enjoyed all of the giggles! Is it time to have your own family photography session in the Kansas City area? See our Booking & Pricing page for details!

These are absolutely gorgeous! Love the colors mom chose – you’ve captured some perfect, classic portraits that they’ll treasure forever!ReplyCancel

It was not too long ago that this cute little guy was in the Kansas City studio for his Christmas newborn photography session. He was so adorable with his milk and cookies and mom created the sweetest Christmas card/birth announcements from his session.

I like to think of our Kansas City family photography Mission Hills sessions like your typical family outing. Really, they are. We choose a beautiful spot. Maybe in your own neighborhood. You spend time together, you laugh, just as if you had planned on spending some weekend time together outdoors. When the session is finished, go for a walk, enjoy a nearby restaurant, show the kids a part of the city they have never session before. When the kids are older, they will always associate that family portrait with the great afternoon you spent together. It will make it even more meaningful. I really believe in building memories for our children. It’s something we can do that will stay with them.

They’ll have both the image and the memory. I really believe in building memories for our children. It’s something we can do that will stay with them. Blow up your favorite image and hang it over the fireplace, it creates such a cozy feel to the home.

I love the gray and navy tones mom chose for this shoot. She shopped at Madewell for outfits.

For this session, I went out to their neck of the woods to a spot I absolutely adore in Mission Hills, KS. So great to see them again!

    KC River Market Family Photography

It was great to see this family again, plus their newer addition! Mom told me they were doing something “not so casual”.  I was super surprised and delighted to see this gorgeous family meet me. Loved the contrast of the KC River Market farmer’s market with their dressy clothes! No matter how many times I shoot there, I always find a new spot. Lots of laughs at this session, family photography should be fun!

A little history on the River Market. The large, open-air farmer’s market began in the 1800’s. The history is full of french influences and even some mobster stories. Interesting stuff.

    1920’s Rivermarket:

In the 1920’s, life around the City Market became busy with business. The City Market included City Hall, the Gillis Opera House, the Jackson County Courthouse, two newspapers and a number of other businesses.

    1930’s Rivermarket

The City Market underwent an extensive renovation with a large public works project. New buildings were constructed through the job initiatives of the Roosevelt Administration.

    1960’s Rivermarket

During the 1960’s the Market was predominantly a produce-only destination. The City Market and the surrounding River Quay area became a popular district with bars, restaurants, and other businesses.

    1980’s & 1990’s Rivermarket

In the late 1980’s and 90’s, $14.5 million in public and private funds were invested in the City Market revamp the surrounding River Market neighborhood.

The City Market structures were rehabbed in 1990, resulting in over 100,000 square feet of restaurants, food-related shops, retail and museum exhibit space. The addition of the Arabia Steamboat Museum helping in taking a major step forward leading the way toward downtown redevelopment.

    2000:

Returning to its roots as a food related attraction, the City Market has received national acclaim in the last couple of decades. In 2002, the City Market received a Great Markets/Great Cities Award of Distinction from the Project for Public Spaces. In 2007, the City Market celebrated its 150th anniversary season. With a record attendance of more than 700,000 visitors, the City Market was listed as Kansas City’s 6th Top Area Attraction in the Kansas City Business Journal.

My first studio space was at the Rivermarket and I have always felt safe shooting here, it holds a special place in my heart.

We’d love to capture your family in the Rivermarket area! See our pricing/booking page for details!
